SAP Bong Go hits NBA for double standard, no-go for Jordan Clarkson, a go for Chinese NBA player Zhou Qi in Asian Games

Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go is a huge basketball fan and a good 3-point shooter according to his close friends.

He has been a familiar sight in PBA games, especially when his favorite PBA team, the Ginebra San Miguel is playing.

When the news that Fil-Am NBA player Jordan Clarkson of the Cleveland Cavaliers has been given the go-signal by the Asian Games Committee to don the Philippine flag, SAP Bong Go joined the rest of the Filipino basketball fans in hoping to see an NBA player play for the RP Men’s Basketball team.

However, Go and the rest of the Filipino fans hope of watching Clarkson play for the RP team was quickly replaced with disappointment after the NBA thumbed down the Philippines’ request.

In the open letter, Go calls out the NBA for double standard.

He cited the cases of Chinese NBA player Zhou Qi and Canada’s Andrew Nicholson who were in the same boat as Clarkson but given the go-signal by the NBA to play for their respective countries.

You may read his open letter below for reference.

While we respect their authority over their players, I cannot help but express my dismay over how one seemingly inconsistent rule allowed them to disregard a plea of a whole nation.

Nakapanghihinayang talaga.

But even with this setback, tuloy pa rin ang laban! I believe in the capabilities and determination of our players and we as a Filipino people should continue to rally behind our squad. Our team will go to Jakarta and FIGHT with all our heart. Puso!
