Sen. Cayetano compares “biased and real news” in viral open letter. Must read!

Most Filipinos get updated with the latest news by choosing between 2 major news networks namely: GMA 7 and Channel 2.

A distant third among the Filipinos is TV5 who arrived in the newscasting scene late in the game.

But when you ask whose the most credible in delivering the news to the Filipino households?

Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano’s viral Facebook post will give us an idea. Let me direct your attention to the full text of his post below.

An Open Letter to ABS-CBN:

“Dear ABS-CBN,
Your article, Exhibit A, shows how supposed professional news media can politicize human rights and mislead people by giving alternative facts and fake news.

Compare your article:
With’s article:

While GMA reported accurately why we called the alternative facts as misleading (because the EJK or deaths in past administrations numbered from 11,000 to 14,000 yearly) comparing it to the 9432 homicides and 2692 deaths resulting from presumed legitimate law enforcement operations, your article simply mentioned the 9432 and 2692 then jumped to New York Times’ “9400 drug death toll” and Reuters’ 9000, without mentioning the 11,000 to 14,000. Therefore denying your readers the information they need to make an informed opinion. You denied them the context of Team Philippines’ assertions making it appear we are just complaining without the real numbers and true facts to counter the altetnative facts.

Actually both articles failed to mention that the CHR and critics are not using the same definition of EJKs under the Aquino Administration, making it appear that EJKs ballooned during Duterte Administration, and asserting that it is state sponsored.

But you could see GMA’s effort to report accurately while ABS’ effort is to perpetuate the false numbers/alternative facts.

Here in Geneva, we are not promoting/defending any administration, we are advocating for the Filipino people and the Philippines as a sovereign state. So ABS, its time to decide, will you report accurately and help your country or will you continue to politicize human rights for your owners political and business goals?

There are many many professionals and great journalist in ABS-CBN, I understand the situation you are all in. But haven’t you always reminded us politicians that keeping quiet or not doing what we can is helping evil prevail? Will we all just go with the flow of the bosses’ agenda? If yes, then it’s your network that is damaging freedom of the press not President Duterte or his administration.

May we learn from all these.

GOD Bless The Philippines!”

Sen. Cayetano’s post has gathered 4,190 shares, 7,464 reactions and 444 comments on Facebook.

Social media share the sentiments of Cayetano and they made sure that their voices are heard by commenting in the thread.

Jojo Relente wrote a lengthy comment: “From the very beginning, ABS is dedicated its network solely for political propaganda in behalf of the yellow politicians as payback for having the network back to their bosses after the 1986 edsa revolt…. so, whoever is against the aquino’s or yellow politics must be ousted by spreading even twisted details of the news just to have public outburst and then what?…. comes the yellow trademark people power… enough of those bulshit!! People are more politically mature now, people are sick & tired of the yellow democracy, i would rather have a dictator president who cares for his people and would fight for it than a harmless looking, calm and decent looking leader but doesnt have the ball’s to stand for what is right just to please the us, eu, etc and did not commit corruption but allowed his crocs in the cabinet to consume govt resources… ABS CBN how long will you allow your network to live its title as bias network.. dont let another susan roces stand and humiliate your network in front of your own cameras (back in 2004) resurrect and burst into anger and ahout… “Pinuno nyo na salop”. My family loves your teledrama… but your news and current affairs sucks!!!!”

John Aries Macatuno agreed: “It isn’t just ABS-CBN, but also Inquirer and Rappler for creating an alternative fact. Rappler started this whole scenario wherein they promoted the fake drug war statistics which the PNP already denied. They didn’t just misled the international media but the whole international community.”

Some netizens want punitive action against ABS-CBN.

Nicky Ceralvo remarked: “Another reason not to renew ABS-CBN News license.”

Job Alcz joined the call for not renewing the TV networks franchise: “Therefore, that should be more than enough reason not to renew their franchise come 2020. We’ve had enough of these shitty people and their garbage.”

Your thoughts please!
