Netizens have a different idea though. Netizens are calling the senate to scrap the building of a new Senate complex at BGC.
This is also the sentiment of UP Professor Clarita Carlos.
In a Facebook post, UP Prof. Carlos questions the rationale for spending that much money, people’s taxes for a complex of ugly buildings for the senate because 3 main reasons.
“I can’t find any rationale for spending P9 billion of our taxes, for a complex of ugly buildings for the Senate, at the BGC…” Prof. Carlos ponders.
First and foremost, she agrees with many quarters pointing out that Batasan grounds in Quezon City can house 24 other lawmakers there.
1. So many quarters have repeatedly pointed out that the Batasan grounds in Quezon City, have more than ample space for 24 other legislators;
In light of the lack of hospital beds when the second wave of covid cases hit NCR, Claros suggests that budget for the new Senate building could be very well spent on building a hospital.
2. This P9 billion could very well build a 1,000+ bed hospital with the most advance hospital equipment, with special wings for institutes for infectious diseases, cancers and other diseases that afflict our people;
Finally, Claros says the the money to finance the new Senate building can also send medical people for training in other countries and many more.
3. That money can also support the training of our medical people in other countries, with great advances in AI, robotics, stem cell and other areas;
Claros ended the brief FB post by taking a swipe at our senators.
“Our sense of proportion is truly truly BANKRUPT!”
“Trivia: Sa lasa ko, yung mga nagpakana nito ay nahawaan ng EDIFICE COMPLEX! Yikes!”
