While former President Marcos has been demonized as an evil dictator, but a letter that surfaced online allegedly written by Marcos shows otherwise.
The alleged Marcos letter written on April 17, 1973 was part of Juan Ponce Enrile’s memoir which made its way online after a netizen named Faith Cabanilla posted on it Facebook, giving social media a different look and the gentle and ‘humane’ side of the former strongman.
The memo was sent by the late President to Juan Ponce Enrile, the National Defense Secretary at the time of Martial Law.
Marcos was telling Enrile to “prevent the prisoners from transmitting secret messages as they have been doing. But let us treat them humanely.”

Sec. J. Ponce Enrile,
See to it that the detainees in Fort Magsaysay as well as those in Fort Bonifacio are given the amenities of life. I understand that their personal belongings, bible, prayer book, shaving kits etc. were taken from them. Mrs. Diokno claims that P4,000 was taken from her husband and not delivered to her; that her husband is kept in a room that is completely closed and treated oppressively.
Let us prevent the prisoners from transmitting secret messages as they have been doing. But let us treat them humanely.
Ferdinand Marcos

The Marcos letter has been a shock to everyone, especially, those who grew up brainwashed by mainstream media that Marcoses are evil, the Aquinos are saints propaganda.
Marvin Roy Tudtud wrote: “Buti na lang talaga at may Facebook ngayon di katulad noon na kontrolado lahat ng kalaban kasi sila ang may hawak ng Media, Sa Radyo Tv Newspaper etc.”
Krizette Laureta Chu remarked: “Omg I don’t want to change my mind about Marcos. Is this real? So ano to? My whole life was a lie?! But someone is rewriting history. And also Imelda sucks talaga”
San Rey said: “That is why all against the Martial Law are doing their best to oppose PRRD. Some of the many truths are starting to be revealed.”
Edwin B. Andrada remarked: “That was actually my impression of him. He’s benevolent but such virtue led to his downfall as he was himself abused by the martial law administrator.”

I was also nega of the strongman before but as i read some bits and pieces, i found out that it was exaggerated.
True, after FM proclaimed Martial Law peace & orderliness prevailed in the country with some pocket resistance in Sulu & other muslim populated areas. Streets in Metro Manila were empty during curfew hours, hence crime is practically zero, making us more safer than now.
Marcos was on the right path when he proclaimed Martial Law. He was a good man. BUT unfortunately Imelda Marcos spoiled it all when power and greed went to her head. I saw it all.
how are you related po kay Pres. Marcos sir? and meron po ba kayong kilalang edralin na naging bishop po ng Aglipayan Church sir sa Ilocos po.
Tell the civilians of Jolo who were burned out of their homes and those 20,000 who were killed during the siege by the Philippine Armed Forces in 1973 just how kind and benevolent Marcos and Enrile were! The list of the Muslim dead is too long to enumerate. And the beat goes on. What good came out of the 20 year Martial Law??? And I speak not as a Filipino but as a foreigner who spent ten years of loving service to the people of Mindanao. Yet, what do I know?
It was shocking that all of this was revealed when everything is going to down fall….
Why now, not the years before?
